Obsidian Flames booster box contents
- 36 Obsidian Flames booster packs
- 10 cards in every pack
- 1 Basic Energy in every pack
That makes 360 cards before you count the Energy, all from one expansion. A Pokémon Obsidian Flames booster box leaves out the sleeves, dice and promo you would find in an Elite Trainer Box, so the focus here is entirely on opening packs.
If you would like accessories alongside your packs, an Elite Trainer Box such as the Pokémon 151 Elite Trainer Box is the better fit. For pure pack count, the booster box is the way to go.
Obsidian Flames (SV03) and type-shifted Tera Pokémon ex
Scarlet & Violet—Obsidian Flames, set code SV03, was released on 11 August 2023. It holds 230 cards: 197 in the main set and 33 secret rares.
It was also the first set to feature type-shifted Tera Pokémon ex, shown with a different type from their usual one. Charizard is the headline example, appearing as a Darkness-type Tera Pokémon ex instead of its familiar Fire type.
That twist is a big reason collectors buy Obsidian Flames Booster Box stock: this is the set where that version of Charizard lives.
Rarities and Pokémon ex worth chasing
The official card list includes:
- 15 Pokémon ex and 6 Tera Pokémon ex
- 12 illustration rares
- 6 special illustration rares
- 12 ultra rare full-art etched cards
- 3 hyper rare gold etched cards
Tera Charizard ex tops most want lists, so expect a big reaction around the table whenever one appears.
Beyond Charizard
Dragonite ex, Tyranitar ex, Revavroom ex, Greedent ex and Melmetal ex round out the Pokémon ex line-up. Dragonite and Tyranitar are long-time favourites with fans who remember them from the early Pokémon games. Between the special illustration rares, etched full arts and gold cards, a Pokémon Obsidian Flames booster box offers plenty of ways to fill a binder page.
What a full box gives you
The 36 packs in a Pokémon Obsidian Flames booster box give you far more chances at illustration rares and special illustration rares than a handful of loose packs.
For players
Opening a whole box usually turns up multiple copies of the set’s Trainer and Pokémon cards, which is handy when you are building decks.
For groups
A stack of 36 packs is easy to share at a group opening, trade with friends or split between players for a draft night.
Storing your pulls
Set out sleeves, top loaders and a binder before you start. Protect any illustration rare, special illustration rare or gold card straight away, sort the rest by type so the Tera Pokémon ex are easy to find, and keep duplicates together to make trading simpler. A quick tally at the end shows exactly which cards you still need.
