Phantasmal Flames (ME02) set overview
Mega Evolution—Phantasmal Flames launched on 14 November 2025 under set code ME02, with Australia and New Zealand sharing that release date. It contains 130 cards, split into 94 main-set cards and 36 secret rares.
Mega Charizard X ex headlines the set, with Mega Gengar ex alongside it. Other Mega ex include Mega Sharpedo ex, Mega Heracross ex and Mega Lopunny ex. The four regular Pokémon ex are Empoleon ex, Mismagius ex, Oricorio ex and Rotom ex.
Chase cards worth tracking
On top of its standard card, Mega Charizard X ex comes in three more versions. There is a Special Illustration Rare at #125, an Ultra Rare at #109, and a Mega Hyper Rare at #130, which closes out the set. Most openers are chasing the #125 and #130 cards.
Special illustration rares
The set has five special illustration rares, numbered #125 through #129. Besides Charizard, they feature the Supporter Dawn (#129), Mega Lopunny ex (#128), Mega Sharpedo ex (#127) and Rotom ex (#126).
Illustration rares and ultra rares
Piplup, Zacian, Flygon and Meowth are among the Pokémon on the thirteen illustration rares, numbered 095 to 107. There are also 17 ultra rares spanning full-art Trainers such as Grimsley’s Move and Dawn, plus the Pokémon ex and Mega ex, so there is far more to chase in a Pokémon Phantasmal Flames booster box than the headline card.
Playing and opening a full display
With thirty-six packs, players usually end up with spare copies of key Pokémon and Trainers, so building a deck is much easier than with a few loose packs. Keep in mind that a Knocked Out Mega ex hands your opponent 3 Prize cards, so support your favourite with Pokémon able to soak up some damage.
Tips for a box break
Before the first pack, lay out sleeves and top loaders so the big hits go straight into protection. Opening a few packs per round keeps the session going, and noting card numbers from 095 upwards makes the rarer pulls easy to log. Players who buy Phantasmal Flames Booster Box stock for a group night can share the opening this way too.
