What’s in the Pitch Black Elite Trainer Box
Here is the full contents list:
- 9 Pitch Black booster packs
- 1 full-art foil promo card featuring Zarude
- 65 card sleeves
- 40 Energy cards
- A player’s guide
- 6 damage-counter dice
- 1 competition-legal coin-flip die
- 1 plastic coin
- A collector’s box with 6 dividers
- A code card for Pokémon TCG Live
The Zarude promo card
Zarude is a Mythical Pokémon, and in the video games it is both a Dark and Grass type, which makes it a natural fit for a set called Pitch Black. The promo is numbered MEP 088 and printed in full-art foil.
Because it comes in every box, the Zarude card is a sure thing whatever your packs reveal. It makes a handy first card for a Pitch Black binder page, so slip it into a sleeve before you start opening.
The Pitch Black expansion at a glance
Pitch Black was released on 17 July 2026 with the set code ME05. It is adapted from the Japanese expansion Abyss Eye and runs to 120 cards, made up of 84 main-set cards and 36 secret rares.
The headline Pokémon is Mega Darkrai ex, sharing the spotlight with Mega Zeraora ex. Rounding out the group of six are Mega Chandelure ex, Mega Excadrill ex, Mega Delphox ex and Mega Slowbro ex.
The set also has four regular Pokémon ex in Lurantis ex, Wailord ex, Rampardos ex and Morpeko ex, which gives deck builders a few non-Mega options to try.
Chase cards in Pitch Black packs
Mega Darkrai ex appears twice at the top of the rarity ladder. Special Illustration Rare #116 is one of those cards, and Mega Hyper Rare #120, the very last card in the set, is the other.
Across the whole expansion you can also hunt for 6 special illustration rares, 11 illustration rares and 18 ultra rares, so each of the nine packs in a Pitch Black Elite Trainer Box is worth opening slowly. Keep a few top loaders within reach.
Building a deck from the box
With the included accessories, you can assemble and play a first Pitch Black deck. Natural picks to build around are Mega Darkrai ex and Mega Zeraora ex, while the 40 Energy cards power the list and the 65 sleeves keep it protected from the start.
Roll the six damage-counter dice and flip the plastic coin during casual games, and save the competition-legal coin-flip die for events. New players who buy Pitch Black ETB stock as their first Mega Evolution product also get the player’s guide to help them settle in.
Storing your pulls
Use the six dividers in the collector’s box to split your cards into sections, for example Mega ex, Trainer cards, Energy and your best hits. Everything from the set then lives together in one box on the shelf.
