Contents of the Mew box
The Pokémon Company lists the Fusion Strike Elite Trainer Box contents as:
- 8 Fusion Strike booster packs
- 65 card sleeves featuring Mew
- 45 Energy cards
- A player’s guide
- A Pokémon TCG rulebook
- 6 damage-counter dice
- 1 competition-legal coin-flip die
- 2 acrylic condition markers
- A collector’s box with 4 dividers
- A code card for Pokémon TCG Online
There is no promo card in this box, so the packs and accessories are the full story. Pokémon TCG Online has since been retired, so think of the code card as part of the original packaging rather than something to redeem.
Fusion Strike in brief
Sword & Shield—Fusion Strike, set code SWSH08, was released on 12 November 2021. It contains 284 cards: 264 in the main set plus 20 secret rares. For years it was the largest English set, which is why so many collectors still treat it as a project.
The expansion introduced the Fusion Strike battle style, joining the Single Strike and Rapid Strike styles from earlier Sword & Shield sets and giving deck builders a whole new family of cards.
Alternate arts and headline Pokémon
Mew V and Mew VMAX headline the set alongside Genesect V. Gigantamax Rillaboom VMAX, Gigantamax Cinderace VMAX and Gigantamax Inteleon VMAX bring the final forms of the Galar starters into the line-up.
The cards most collectors hope to find are the alternate arts:
- Mew VMAX Alternate Art, 269/264
- Espeon VMAX Alternate Art, 270/264
- Gengar VMAX Alternate Art, 271/264
All three are numbered above the 264-card main set, so check the number in the bottom corner of each card as you open. Anything over 264 is a secret rare worth a top loader.
The Mew box for players and collectors
With 65 Mew sleeves inside and Mew VMAX leading the expansion, it is no surprise that many collectors call this the Mew Elite Trainer Box. The sleeves cover a full 60-card deck with a few spares for your best pulls.
The 45 Energy cards, dice, coin-flip die and condition markers let a new player build a first deck and start playing straight away, while the rulebook and player’s guide explain the basics. That complete kit is the main reason people buy Fusion Strike ETB stock instead of loose packs.
Organising a 284-card set
Use the four dividers to split the collector’s box into Pokémon V and VMAX, other Pokémon, Trainers and Energy. Move alternate arts and secret rares into sleeves and top loaders straight away, and once your cards move to a binder, the empty box makes a good home for dice, markers and spare sleeves.
